Disney Movies Now On YouTube

By Anna Heim / Nov 23, 2011 / Comments

Disney movies are coming to YouTube, Variety reports. Besides “Winnie the Pooh” and “Pirates of the Caribbean,” the deal also includes titles from Dreamworks and Pixar such as “Cars 2″ and “Alice in Wonderland”, which will be available for rental on Google’s video platform.

Cars 300x228 Disney movies are coming to YouTubeThe information was also confirmed on YouTube’s official blog, and comes right on time for the holiday season. As a matter of fact, “Cars” and “Pirates” already available for American users to rent right now, and are priced at $1.99. According to YouTube’s Movies & TV Marketing Manager Minjae Ormes, more titles will be added in the weeks to come, including both classics and new releases.

This deal comes only a couple weeks after the two companies closed a partnership around an original video series to be produced by Disney and made available on YouTube. At the time, the co-president of Disney Interactive James A. Pitaro declared:

It’s imperative to go where our audience is [and] bring Disney’s legacy of storytelling to a new generation of families and Disney enthusiasts on the platforms they prefer.

This new deal is a big achievement for Google, as the company has been reportedly trying for months to add more professional, high-quality long-form content to YouTube’s movie offering. Still, it’s not its first deal with a Hollywood studio, as its rental store already includes films from Sony Pictures, Warner Bros. and Universal Pictures. Here’s what the store currently looks like in the US:
